OIC Commends Outcome of Bouznika Meetings of Libyan ‘6+6’ Joint Commission
The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the announcement that crowned the meetings of the “6+6” joint commission tasked by the Libyan House of Representatives and High Council of State with drafting the laws governing the presidential and parliamentary elections, which took place in Bouznika. In a statement issued on Thursday, the organization’s General Secretariat praised the role played by the Kingdom of Morocco in achieving these compromises. It expressed the hope that this step would pave the way for the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections in a way that meets the Libyan people’s aspirations for security, peace, stability and development, and the preservation of Libya’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. The “6+6” joint commission announced on Tuesday that, after two weeks of meetings in Morocco, its members had reached a compromise on the laws governing the presidential and parliamentary elections. The Bouznika meeting is a continuation of the series of meetings hosted by the Kingdom, bringing together the various Libyan parties with a view to deepening dialogue on ways and means of resolving the crisis in the country, following an approach that provides the right space for dialogue and constructive consultation.
