The distinguished ties between Morocco and Azerbaijan stem from a convergence of views on issues of common interest, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, said Monday in Rabat. “The distinguished ties between the two friendly countries draw their strength from the fraternal relations between HM King Mohammed VI and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, as well as from the convergence of the two countries’ orientations, characterized by ties of solidarity and convergence of views on bilateral, regional and international issues,” stressed Bourita during a joint press briefing with his Azerbaijani peer Jeyhun Bayramov, at the close of the 2nd Morocco-Azerbaijan Joint Commission. The 2nd Morocco-Azerbaijan Joint Commission was an opportunity to review and assess the achievements of the last few years, and to determine the future stages of the promising relationship between the two countries, said the Minister, pointing out that the legal framework for cooperation has been enriched by the signing of several agreements covering fields such as energy, logistics and many others. Bourita added that numerous initiatives and activities to be implemented in the near future should give new impetus to sectoral cooperation and deepen and diversify the partnership between the two countries. The meeting also provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on several regional and international issues, said Bourita, who expressed to Bayramov “Morocco’s great appreciation for the clear and firm positions of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as for its support for national sovereignty, the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and its legitimate rights over its southern provinces.” “Emanating from a friendly country with which Morocco maintains solid ties, distinguished relations and unwavering solidarity, these positions are greatly appreciated by His Majesty the King, the Moroccan people and all the Kingdom’s dynamic forces,” said Bourita. The two countries also attach great importance to consolidating their economic relations, as evidenced by the holding on Tuesday of a Business Forum to be attended by several businessmen and economic players from both countries, which will create partnership opportunities between economic operators, contribute to the creation of a favorable environment for investment and trade, and give impetus to bilateral cooperation as well as commercial exchanges. Regarding the consolidation of human, cultural and tourist relations between the two countries, Bourita pointed out that the Republic of Azerbaijan was the first country to benefit from the adoption of electronic visas to enter Moroccan territory, which has had a positive impact in promoting Morocco as a tourist and business destination, and in increasing the number of Azerbaijani visitors to the Kingdom.
