Cape Verde Reiterates Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity
Cape Verde’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, Rui Alberto de Figueiredo Soares, reiterated, here Monday, his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity. In a statement to the press following his talks with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries, Soares reaffirmed Cape Verde’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the “Western” Sahara, reiterating his country’s position expressed in the joint communiqué adopted during the joint commission in 2023 in Rabat. In this communiqué, the Republic of Cape Verde had reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the autonomy plan, presented by the Kingdom, which constitutes the only credible and realistic solution to settle the dispute over the Sahara. Cape Verde’s position, which is consistent with the new approach of the United Nations on the Moroccan Sahara, joins the positions of almost all African countries, the United States of America and Europe. The High-Level Ministerial Conference on Middle-Income Countries is being held on Monday and Tuesday in Rabat, with the participation of 32 countries, including many represented at ministerial level, and 23 United Nations development agencies and other international and regional institutions. Under the theme “Solutions to Address Development Challenges of Middle-Income Countries in a Changing World”, this high-level Ministerial Conference is organized on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, jointly with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the United Nations Development Programme.
