Conference in Lyon on the Rapid Development of Southern Morocco under King Mohammed VI’s Leadership

A conference held on November 6th in Lyon (southeastern France), organized by the Moroccan Consulate General, highlighted the significant progress made in Southern Morocco under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. The event, which marked the 49th anniversary of the Green March, was centered around the theme “Southern Provinces of Morocco: Potential and Investment Opportunities.”

The conference was attended by, among others, the Consul General of Morocco in Lyon, Mrs. Fatima Baroudi, several French dignitaries, members of the Moroccan diaspora, and economic experts.

This event provided an opportunity for speakers to present to the audience the major developments undertaken in the Saharan provinces, in line with King Mohammed VI’s strategic vision, which has fostered rapid economic growth in the Southern provinces, creating a dynamic similar to that of other regions of the Kingdom.

The speakers emphasized the transformation of the Southern provinces into a key development hub, attracting significant investments and infrastructure projects. This has turned the region into a strategic crossroads between Africa and Europe, as well as a growing African economic hub.

In his presentation, Henri Louis Vedie, a professor at HEC Paris, discussed the growth of these provinces since the Green March and the economic reforms implemented under King Mohammed VI’s reign since 1999, particularly in the agricultural, maritime, and tourism sectors.

Tariq Essaid, a management consultant, spoke about recent reforms in investment, while Nabil Ameziane from the Dakhla Regional Investment Center highlighted investment opportunities, particularly through one-stop shops that facilitate administrative processes.

Documentaries were shown to the audience, recalling significant moments from the memorable Green March and showcasing the resources and immense investment potential of Dakhla. Entrepreneurs also shared success stories from the South, demonstrating the business-friendly environment that has contributed to the region’s growth.
