Paraguay Reaffirms Support for Moroccanness of Sahara

United Nations (New York) – Paraguay’s Foreign Minister, Rubén Darío Ramírez Lezcano, reaffirmed Wednesday in New York his country’s support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara.

“Paraguay has recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, and we are working at the United Nations to achieve a resolution that enshrines this decision,” Ramírez Lezcano told the press following a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Paraguay officially recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara in September 2025, during a meeting between Ramírez Lezcano and Bourita on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

Referring to his recent working visit to Rabat, Paraguay’s FM said the trip provided an opportunity to give new momentum to cooperation between the two countries. He also voiced his country’s desire to take cooperation with the Kingdom to a higher level.
