The House of Representatives takes part in the international conference which kicked off on Thursday in Malta, on the theme “Culture of tolerance and peace beyond current challenges: Middle East, North Africa, and Europe”. The House of Representatives is represented at this two-day event, organized by the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and the Maltese House of Representatives, by the first deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohamed Sebbari. This international conference, which will be attended by MPs, diplomats and academics, will focus on themes linked to the exchange of experiences, the participation of civil society in the fight against current challenges, and the promotion of a culture of tolerance in the MENA region and around the Mediterranean, said the House of Representatives in a statement, adding that the event will be marked by the adoption of the Malta Declaration for Peace and Tolerance. On the sidelines of the conference, Sebbari held talks with speaker of the Maltese House of Representatives, Angelo Farrugia, during which he stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral parliamentary relations and coordination within international parliamentary forums, in addition to supporting efforts to promote the values of tolerance and peace in the Mediterranean region. For his part, Farrugia expressed the Maltese legislative institution’s readiness to set up the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Morocco in the near future, to interact with the Group created by the House of Representatives. The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace is an NGO that works to strengthen noble human values and promote tolerance and peace between peoples and countries. The House of Representatives is an active member of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, which is the parliamentary body of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, noted the same source, adding that Rabat and Dakhla hosted the tenth session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace in 2022, which was attended by 80 parliamentary deputies from around the world. The House of Representatives had also signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of tolerance and peace.
