Sahara: Israel’s Recognition Is New Victory for Morocco – Senegalese Media
The decision by the State of Israel to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara constitutes a new victory for the Kingdom, say Senegalese media, underlining that the said decision consolidates the international community’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity. “This decision by Israel constitutes a new victory for Morocco and consolidates the international community’s support for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, and will therefore encourage Israeli and foreign investors to seize the great investment opportunities offered by the Moroccan Sahara regions”, writes the “Senego” newspaper. For its part, the newspaper “lerepublicainsn” stresses that this position “constitutes the continuity of the dynamics very favorable to the Moroccan national cause created thanks to the Royal Vision, in recent years”, citing in particular the American recognition, the support for autonomy by more than 15 European countries, including Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, as well as the opening of 28 consulates of African, Arab and Latin American countries in the southern provinces. The Senegalese press agency (APS) reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has informed HM King Mohammed VI of the State of Israel’s decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara. APS reports that HM the King was notified of Israel’s position on the Moroccan Sahara issue in a letter from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In this letter, the Israeli Prime Minister brought to the Very High Attention of His Majesty the King, the decision of the State of Israel to “recognize the sovereignty of Morocco over the territory of Western Sahara,” adds the agency, citing a statement from the Royal Office. For its part, the “Seneweb” news website reports that Mr. Netanyahu informed the Sovereign that Israel is positively examining “the opening of a consulate in the town of Dakhla”, as part of the implementation of this state decision.
