Vatican: Cardinal Pietro Parolin Highlights HM the King’s Efforts to Promote Interreligious Dialogue

The Secretary of State for the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, highlighted the efforts of HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, to promote tolerance and inter-religious dialogue. Speaking at a reception organized in his honor on Wednesday evening by the Moroccan Embassy in the Vatican, following his appointment as an honorary member of the Kingdom’s Academy, the cardinal highlighted the “cordial and sincere relations” between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Vatican. Cardinal Parolin welcomed the Royal appointment, expressing his “great satisfaction and gratitude at having been chosen as an honorary member of this prestigious institution.” The mission of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, as a scientific institution of reference, is to contribute to the country’s intellectual, scientific and cultural progress, while making known the components of the national identity and disseminating universal values and principles, aiming at the promotion of a fruitful dialogue between cultures and civilizations, he added. Through the organization of worldwide meetings, the Academy builds civilizational bridges and strengthens mutual cultural understanding, stressed the Holy See official. For her part, the Moroccan Ambassador to the Holy See, Rajae Naji Mekkaoui, underlined that “this Royal appointment reaffirms the willingness and commitment of the Sovereign to consolidate the age-old relations between Morocco and the Vatican and to work towards promoting the universal values of peace and tolerance, the protection of the family, migration, climate change, sustainable development, the fight against poverty and the strengthening of multilateralism. ”The opening of the prestigious Academy of the Kingdom to eminent personalities and intellectual and scientific skills from around the world is also part of the historic role played by Morocco, as a crossroads of dialogue between the West and the East and a permanent bridge of communication between different civilizations,” noted the diplomat.
