Spain Endeavors to Raise its Relations with Morocco to ‘Higher Level’ – PSOE Member –

The Spanish government takes a “special interest” in its cooperation and good-neighborly relations with Morocco, and is working to raise them “to a higher level”, said, on Wednesday, Juan Segovia, a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE). “The visit to the Kingdom by president of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, reflects the particular importance Spain attaches to consolidating its relations with its privileged partner, Morocco”, Segovia told MAP. This visit, he added, will help to further strengthen strategic relations between the two Kingdoms, noting that Spain holds Morocco, a friendly neighboring country, in high esteem”. “The partnership between Rabat and Madrid is an example to follow in terms of cooperation,” according to the former Socialist regional deputy and Secretary General of the Fuencarral Socialist Rally. Cooperation and coordination between the two countries, particularly in the fields of migration and counter-terrorism, is exemplary, he said, praising the regular and ongoing dialogue between the two governments, and the frequency of high-level visits on both sides. “This unique relationship has a positive impact on the level of economic exchanges and reinforces the political convergence between the two Kingdoms”, concluded Segovia. The visit to Morocco by the president of the Spanish Government follows on from the meeting with HM King Mohammed VI in April 2022, which gave unprecedented impetus to bilateral relations, consolidated by the High-Level Meeting and an intense exchange of visits by senior officials from both sides. President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, arrived in Morocco on Wednesday as part of a friendly working visit to the Kingdom. On his arrival at Rabat-Salé airport, Sanchez, accompanied by Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, was greeted by Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.
