Cairo: Foreign Minister Reiterates Morocco’s Continued Tireless Efforts to Defend Holy Places, Notably Al-Quds
Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, reaffirmed, Tuesday in Cairo, the Kingdom’s continued tireless efforts to defend holy places, notably Al Quds, to which HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, pays particular attention. Speaking at the 162nd session of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers, Bourita said that HM the King pays particular attention to defending the holy places, notably Al Quds, by combining political and diplomatic action and fieldwork, through Bayt Mal Al Quds Agency, the operational arm of the Al Quds Committee, which implements concrete plans and projects aimed mainly at preserving the legal status of the Holy City, safeguarding its civilizational identity and supporting the resistance of its inhabitants. “We need more than ever to adopt a reconciliatory, constructive and future-oriented Arab vision, to promote natural Arab-Arab relations, which transcend the complexes of the past and overcome the political obstacles and bilateral differences hindering recovery and development,” Bourita underlined. The Arab world needs to direct its future partnerships with the various regional blocs towards the establishment of a healthy intellectual, cultural and media environment, in order to ensure cohabitation and cooperation between its peoples in order to allow generational integration and the enshrinement of the values of tolerance and acceptance of the Other, far from stereotypes and exclusionary approaches, which generate conflicts and dissensions, the minister noted. Bourita also stressed the “urgent need” to develop balanced relations with traditional partners, “on the basis of clear standards and criteria that will guarantee the success and continuity of these partnerships, without undermining the security and sovereignty of our countries and their territorial integrity”. The dangers threatening the Arab world and the rapid developments at all levels make the Arab world “a figure in a complex international equation”, the minister said, noting that in the absence of an appropriate solution, “we will find ourselves at a crossroads”. In this context, the Kingdom hopes that concrete and practical measures will be taken to accelerate the reform of the Arab League, in a climate of consensus so that this organization can fulfill its role as a mechanism aimed at enshrining Arab solidarity and developing joint action and Arab unity, Bourita said, adding that working hand in hand remains the only option for all to achieve this goal. In addition to Bourita, the Moroccan delegation includes Moroccan Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Mohamed Ait Ouali, the Head of the Arab and Islamic Organizations Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Abdelali El Jahid, and the Kingdom’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Hicham Ould Essallay.
