Sahara: Royal Speech Emphasizes Relevance of Morocco’s Approach, Former Peruvian FM Says
The Royal Speech at the opening of the fourth legislative year of the 11th legislature of the Parliament highlights the relevance of Morocco’s approach regarding the Sahara issue, through which it managed to drum up significant support on the international stage, said the former Peruvian Foreign Minister, Miguel Angel Rodriguez Mackay. In a statement to MAP, Mackay highlighted the Sovereign’s diplomatic leadership, noting that “the vision of HM the King, implemented by the Moroccan diplomacy throughout the world, mainly in the UN, deserves to be highlighted.” In this context, he cited the support of influential countries for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, such as the United States, Spain and recently France and Denmark. The positions of these countries thus “inexorably reaffirm Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.” In his speech to Parliament, “HM the King was very clear in underlining the importance of State institutions, political parties and Moroccan society,” noted Mackay, adding that the Moroccan people as a whole are fundamentally committed to this part of their territory.
