Sahara Issue: The Democratic Republic of Congo Reiterates Support for Autonomy Initiative
The Democratic Republic of Congo reaffirmed, in New York, its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, deeming it “the compromise solution” to the regional dispute over the Sahara. Presented in 2007 by Morocco, this initiative is in line with the Charter of the United Nations and international law, said Tuesday the ambassador and permanent representative of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the UN, Zénon Mukongo Ngay, before the members of the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly. The diplomat also reaffirmed his country’s support for the political process led under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General and aimed at achieving a political, just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution to this regional dispute.
