On High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God Assist Him, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, accompanied by Ms. Brigitte Macron, on Tuesday inaugurated the Royal Theater of Rabat, a structuring project that reinforces the ecosystem of the City of Light, Morocco’s cultural capital. After unveiling the commemorative plaque, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, accompanied by Ms. Brigitte Macron, followed a presentation on the interior architecture of the Royal Theater of Rabat, before touring the Theater’s various outbuildings. The fruit of an enlightened vision, this iconic building is a concrete expression of the Royal High Solicitude constantly shown towards art and culture. The location, aesthetics and innovative technology of this new theater represent a major turning point in Morocco’s cultural landscape. Launched by HM King Mohammed VI, may God Assist Him, and part of Rabat’s development program, this large-scale project contributes to strengthening the cultural infrastructure in the Kingdom’s regions and promotes Morocco’s cultural prominence throughout the world. A symbol of great modernity, the Royal Theater of Rabat’s unique design adds a contemporary touch to the capital’s architecture, making it not only a venue for artistic performances, but also a work of art in its own right. Located in the heart of the Bouregreg Valley, next to the Hassan Tower and the Mohammed V Mausoleum, the Royal Theater of Rabat stands as a symbol of the cultural and artistic renewal of the Kingdom’s capital. It shall breathe new life into Morocco’s cultural momentum, promoting a modernist approach to Moroccan art, with all that this entails in terms of enhancing creative capacities. Built by the Bouregreg Valley Development Agency and designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid, the Royal Theater of Rabat covers an area of 7.1 hectares, including 25,400 m2 of built-up area. The building blends harmoniously into the Bouregreg Valley thanks to its shape, designed to blend in with the site’s dynamism and landscape. Comprising a number of cleverly distributed spaces, the Royal Theater of Rabat is distinguished first and foremost by its innovative layout, which enables interactivity between its various components, but also by the fluid mobility of the audience, thanks to monumental staircases, passageways, elevators and dedicated access for people with reduced mobility (PRM), in line with the principle of “mobility for all.” The Royal Theater of Rabat  includes an auditorium, a large performance hall that can accommodate over 1,800 spectators. Featuring a unique design, based on a distinctive and innovative geometric walls and ceiling, this auditorium can accommodate a wide range of artistic and cultural events (theater, dance, ballet, opera, musicals, symphonic and philharmonic concerts, as well as other forms of live performance). Destined to be a world-class facility, the Royal Theater of Rabat’s auditorium boasts acoustics that meet the highest international standards of insulation. Sound quality inside the auditorium is exceptional, with acoustic architecture and engineering designed to deliver an immersive sound experience for spectators. A removable ceiling in the form of an acoustic reflector also forms a central element and represents a singularity. The Royal Theater of Rabat includes a second 250-seat auditorium, open to all forms of cultural experimentation and expression in their many and varied styles and genres, designed to become a springboard for Morocco’s new artistic scene. The exterior of the Theatre includes an amphitheater with a capacity of 7,000 people, designed to host festivals and other major events. The Royal Theater of Rabat promises an immersive cultural experience through a rich program hosting national and international cultural events, thus further enriching the cultural scene of Rabat and Morocco as a whole. Through this unique architectural and urban landmark, Rabat is elevating itself to the rank of major international cultural destinations under the visionary leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him. Upon her arrival at the Royal Theater of Rabat, Ms. Brigitte Macron was greeted by HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, before reviewing a detachment of Auxiliary Forces who made the honors. HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, accompanied by Ms. Brigitte Macron, was greeted by Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, Governor of the prefecture of Rabat, Mohamed Yacoubi, President of the Regional Council of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Rachid El Abdi, President of the Communal Council of Rabat, Fatiha El Moudni, and President of the Prefectural Council of Rabat, Abdelaziz Derouiche, as well as several other personalities.
