Morocco-Liberia Joint Cooperation Commission, Opportunity to Establish Solid Economic Partnership – Moroccan FM
The third session of the Morocco-Liberia Joint Cooperation Commission represents an important turning point in bilateral relations and an opportunity to establish a solid economic partnership by exploring new avenues for advanced cooperation, thus contributing to promoting joint development and economic integration between the two countries and at continental level, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, said on Friday in Laâyoune. Speaking at this meeting, the Minister expressed his conviction that this session will give a strong impetus to bilateral ties, stressing that “our common desire is to raise bilateral cooperation to the level of the aspirations of both countries’ Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Joseph Nyumah Boakai”. He also hailed the positive results achieved at this meeting, noting that “the agreements to be signed during this ministerial session in Laâyoune reflect our shared commitment to pave the way for the creation of a favorable business climate to achieve a win-win partnership between Morocco and Liberia”. Similarly, Bourita noted that the legal framework adopted today will certainly contribute to advancing bilateral relations, calling on economic operators and investors from both countries to seize the opportunities to explore new horizons for cooperation in areas such as investment, industry, trade, fisheries, renewable energies, health, water, education, infrastructure and women’s issues. In this regard, he proposed the creation of a ministerial commission in charge of monitoring, guiding and assessing progress in the implementation of the agreements signed during this session, adding that this bilateral platform, which will be co-chaired by Moroccan and Liberian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, will include representatives from both parties. Bourita also expressed his deep gratitude to the Liberian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, for the Republic of Liberia’s constant support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, in particular its position in favor of the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, through the inauguration in March 2020 of a Consulate General in Dakhla, as well as participation in meetings in support of the Autonomy Initiative under Moroccan sovereignty. Given the challenges facing the African continent, the Minister reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to making South-South cooperation, particularly with African countries, an essential lever for sustainable development and prosperity. In this context, he highlighted the various Royal Initiatives in favor of the continent, notably those aimed at facilitating the access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, in order to create conditions conducive to the emergence of a new era of mutual development, stability and prosperity for African peoples.
