Sebta : 531 Voluntary Returns Recorded on August 13 as Morocco-Spain Cooperation Continues

The situation around Sebta (Ceuta) is gradually evolving as Moroccan authorities continue their efforts to prevent irregular migration attempts and facilitate the voluntary return of those concerned. A total of 531 voluntary returns were recorded on August 13, 2026.

This latest development follows the exceptional influx recorded at the end of July, amid a major disinformation campaign on social media. The widespread circulation of rumors triggered an unprecedented movement, with approximately 72,000 migrants arriving in Sebta.

Faced with this unprecedented situation, Morocco and Spain quickly stepped up their coordination to manage the flows and organize the return of the vast majority of those involved to Morocco. This cooperation is part of an effort to provide an orderly and effective response to a phenomenon amplified by the spread of false information online.

Moroccan authorities have also strengthened their efforts on the ground. The Ministry of Interior has mobilized its forces to prevent further attempts to cross into Sebta, while ensuring security is maintained in the areas concerned.

Combating disinformation is also an important component of the measures being implemented. The authorities are seeking to curb the spread of misleading content that could encourage more people to travel to Ceuta in the hope of making an irregular crossing.

At the same time, judicial investigations have been opened to establish the circumstances surrounding the massive influx at the end of July and determine responsibility for the dissemination of the information that contributed to it.

With voluntary returns continuing and security measures being strengthened, the Moroccan authorities aim to consolidate a return to a controlled situation, while maintaining cooperation with Spain to address the challenges posed by irregular migration.
