Customs revenues up 6.5% in 2006

Rabat, Apr. 6 – Moroccan customs revenues reached in 2006 some MAD 53Bn


(about USD 6.4Bn) up from MAD 49.7Bn (about USD 5.9Bn) in 2005, that is a 6.5 % increase, revealed here Thursday, a report by the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII).

ADII ascribed this performance to the increase of the VAT and the Domestic Consumption Tax revenues that rose respectively, 13.4% and 3.1%. The source added that import duties were stabilized at about USD 1.4Bn.On fighting smuggling and drug trafficking, the customs seizures of drugs in 2006 increased 38% to reach 87 MT, while those of cigarettes reached 52 million units.The document also said a hundred percent of customs declarations have been computerized.
