Moroccan Sahara: Bouaida Sees Israel’s Recognition ‘Just’, ‘Historic’
The State of Israel’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara is a “just and historic” decision that confirms “the justice of the national question,” stressed the President of the Association of the Regions of Morocco (ARM) and the Regional Council of Guelmim-Oued Noun, Mbarka Bouaida. In a statement to MAP, she said that “this decision comes on top of all the recognition that Morocco has received in recent years, thanks to the high leadership of HM King Mohammed VI. She also considered that this Israeli recognition will undoubtedly have very positive repercussions on the international scene, since, as she pointed out, the Israeli Prime Minister assures that there will be a harmonization of the relevant acts and documents of the Israeli government in relation to this decision, which will also be transmitted to the United Nations and all the organizations of which Israel is a member. A statement issued by the Royal Office announced today that His Majesty King Mohammed VI received a letter from the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, His Excellency Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, in which the Head of the Israeli Government brought to the Very High attention of His Majesty the King the decision of the State of Israel to “recognize the sovereignty of Morocco over the territory of Western Sahara.” In this regard, the Israeli Prime Minister stated that his country’s position “will be reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli Government.” He also emphasized that the decision “will be communicated to the United Nations, to regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, and to all countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations.” In his letter to the Sovereign, the Israeli Prime Minister informed him that Israel is positively considering “the opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla” as part of the implementation of this State decision.
