Morocco’s Election to UNHRC’s Presidency, Recognition of Kingdom’s Reforms – Peter Pham –
The election of Morocco to the presidency of the United Nations’ Human Rights Council is a recognition of the reforms undertaken by Morocco under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, said Peter Pham, member of The Atlantic Council, a U.S. think tank. The unequivocal support to Morocco pays tribute to the long-term actions and efforts deployed under royal leadership in favor of promoting human rights and freedoms, Pham told MAP. Among these “important” milestones made in Morocco since the accession of His Majesty the King to the Throne of His glorious ancestors, the former Special Envoy of the United States for the Sahel regions and the Great Lakes regions cited the creation of the Advisory Human Rights Council, which became the National Human Rights Council, the Family Code reform and the measures put in place to protect migrants. He concluded by indicating that Morocco’s election also represents a recognition of the merit and the esteem the Kingdom enjoys around the world.
