Morocco Stands By Malawi through Concrete Actions, Says Malawi’s FM

Morocco stands by Malawi through concrete actions, both within regional and international bodies and at the level of the African Union (AU), Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo affirmed in Rabat on Thursday. As a country devoted to the values of friendship, Morocco continuously reaffirms its commitment to Malawi notably within the Human Rights Council and the broader UN framework, as well as through enhanced collaboration within the AU, Tembo stated at a press briefing following discussions with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita. The Malawian top diplomat emphasized that the ongoing mutual support between Morocco and Malawi in regional, continental, and international forums reflects their shared commitment and willingness to further strengthen their cooperation. In this respect, Tembo recalled the signing of the bilateral roadmap for 2024-2026 last year, which has fostered mutual benefits, highlighting Morocco’s tangible support and solidarity with the Malawian people, especially during times of natural disasters. Regarding food security, Morocco has donated 20,000 tons of fertilizers to Malawi, aimed at supporting agricultural activity—a key piller of the country’s economy—and generating new employment opportunities, she explained.  She also underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation in higher education, emphasizing the scholarships offered by the Kingdom to students, a gesture that “greatly benefits the people of Malawi.” Following these talks, a joint statement has been signed, reaffirming Malawi’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, and for its sovereignty over all its territory, including the Moroccan Sahara region.  In this context, Tembo shed light on the significant progress made in Morocco’s Southern provinces, particularly in terms of infrastructure, universities, educational improvements, as well as the “colossal development” of these regions.
