UN: Venezuela and Cuba Call for ‘Mutually Acceptable’ Solution to Moroccan Sahara Issue

Venezuela and Cuba have called before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly in New York for a “lasting and mutually acceptable” solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue. The Deputy Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the UN, Joaquín Pérez, pleaded for a “peaceful, just, lasting and mutually acceptable” solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. He expressed the wish to see the appointment of the new personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, contribute to the relaunch of the political process, with direct negotiations between the parties, as well as to the full implementation of MINURSO’s mandate. For his part, the representative of Cuba has called for a “mutually acceptable” political solution by the parties to the conflict.
