HM the King’s Telephone Conversation with Pedro Sánchez Reflects Shared Desire to Strengthen Morocco-Spain Relations – Mauritanian Expert
The President of the Mauritanian-Moroccan Association for the Defense of Maghreb Unity, Cheikhani Ould Cheikh, stressed that the telephone conversation between HM King Mohammed VI and the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, reflects a shared desire for healthy, strong, united and fruitful Moroccan-Spanish relations. This telephone communication, which constitutes “a mark of goodwill, tolerance and peace”, inaugurates a new era in the secular relations between the two kingdoms, Ould Cheikh told MAP. According to him, this telephone conversation should serve as a “roadmap” for both governments to translate into reality the ambitions and aspirations of the peoples of both countries for a prosperous future. He further noted that the meeting is also part of HM King Mohammed VI’s willingness to strengthen the channels of communication and cooperation, as well as relations that meet the requirements of the 21st century. The objective is to promote stability and prosperity in the Mediterranean region and the well-being of its people, he maintained, noting that it is a “timely” message to build a future that guarantees security, peace and development to the peoples of the Mediterranean region. In this sense, Ould Cheikh recalled Spain’s “honorable” position supporting the autonomy initiative of the Sahara under the sovereignty of the Kingdom; a solution he described as “the most serious, realistic and credible basis for resolving this dispute.”
