President William Ruto ‘Cuts Ties’ with So-Called ‘Sadr’ Separatists, Kenyan Media Outlets

The decision of the President of the Republic of Kenya, Mr. William Ruto, to rescind the recognition of the so-called “SADR” has made the headlines of the Kenyan media which note that this decision “cuts the bridges” with the separatists and marks a new era of cooperation between Nairobi and Rabat. Thus, “Daily Nation” writes that President William Ruto, a day after he took power, “cuts ties” with the separatists, stressing that the decision  to rescind the recognition of the so called “SADR” is President William Ruto’s first upending on foreign policy hours after he took power as fifth President of Kenya. President Ruto said Kenya would wind down the representation of the puppet Republic in Nairobi and back Morocco, the daily wrote, adding that Kenya’s Head of State announced the measure after meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad Nasser Bourita, who delivered him a congratulatory message from HM the King. In this move, Kenya follows the lead of the United States, said the author of the article, adding that the move now suggests the country could establish a full mission in Rabat. In the same vein, “The Standard” writes that President Ruto is severing Kenya’s ties with the puppet republic. “Kenya is rescinding its recognition” of the so-called “SADR” and “undertaking steps to close its representation in the country,” Ruto wrote in a tweet quoted by the publication. The president stressed the centrality of the United Nations as the exclusive mechanism to find a lasting solution to the artificial conflict, it added. For its part, “The Star” writes that President Ruto said that “Kenya is accelerating relations with Morocco in areas of trade, agriculture, health, tourism and energy among others.”  ” Kenya supports the United Nations framework as the exclusive mechanism to find a lasting solution to the dispute over the Sahara, the paper said quoting the same tweet. The Kenyan president’s statements came after receiving a congratulatory message from His Majesty King Mohammed VI, according to the same source. For its part, “The Citizen” writes that President Ruto has distanced himself from the recognition of the so-called “SADR”, adding that Kenya only supports peace initiatives undertaken within the framework of the United Nations. President Ruto further noted that Kenya has begun the process of closing the representation of the puppet republic in Kenya, the newspaper added, reporting that the new president received a congratulatory message from HM the King, following which he “decided to rescind the recognition” of the so-called “SADR.
