French Expert Slams Polisario’s Gross Human Rights Violations in Tindouf Camps

André Grimblatt, PhD in Communication Sciences at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, protested on Monday in New York against the gross violations of human rights committed by the armed separatist group “Polisario” in the camps of Tindouf (southwestern Algeria). “This armed group [the polisario] perpetrates violations of human rights in the camps of Tindouf and sows instability in the region,” denounced the French expert before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly, noting that these militias also engage in the recruitment and indoctrination of children, in addition to the detour of humanitarian aid intended for the sequestered populations of the camps. He also stressed that the “polisario”, isolated from the Sahrawi populations, “persists in acting with a behavior and a refusal to negotiate that resembles precisely what we agree to call a terrorist group, not only by its actions, but also by its negative to any peaceful conversation. To overcome this impasse, Grimblatt stressed that the only way to find a final solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara is the autonomy initiative. “The autonomy plan is proving to be a sustainable and acceptable political solution. This plan is the only basis for a just and lasting solution,” he insisted, recalling that the initiative has been the subject of consultations at all levels of the Moroccan nation, as well as with the population and elected officials of the Sahara” and it is considered by the Security Council and a significant number of countries and governments as “serious, credible and realistic.”
