Israel’s Recognition of Morocco’s Sovereignty over its Sahara, ‘Direct Result’ of HM the King’s Vision – American Jewish Committee –

The decision of the State of Israel to recognise Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara is “the direct result” of the vision of HM King Mohammed VI, the American Jewish Committee (AJC) pointed out Monday. This decision is “the direct result of the vision of His Majesty the King in advancing relations between Morocco and Israel,” Jason Isaacson, Chief Policy and Political Affairs Officer of the American Jewish Committee, told MAP. The AJC, “which has long supported the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, warmly welcomes the Israeli announcement on the Moroccan Sahara,” he stressed. Mr. Isaacson recalled, in this regard, the visit made recently by an important delegation of the AJC to the city of Dakhla, noting that this trip is part of his organization’s support to the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara. A statement by the Royal Office said that HM King Mohammed VI has received a letter from the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, in which the Israeli Prime Minister brought to the Very High Attention of the Sovereign the decision of the State of Israel to “recognize the sovereignty of Morocco over the territory of Western Sahara.”  The Israeli Prime Minister stressed that his country’s position will be “reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli Government.” He also underlined that the decision would be forwarded to the United Nations, to regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, and to all countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations. In his letter to the Sovereign, the Israeli Prime Minister pointed out that his country is positively considering “the opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla,” as part of the implementation of this state decision.
