Lower House Speaker Highlights in Jakarta Kingdom’s Development Model
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, highlighted, on Tuesday in Jakarta, the Moroccan development model and the major projects launched by the Kingdom, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI. Talbi El Alami, who took part as chief guest in the parliamentary dialogue session with Morocco, held as part of the 44th Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, hosted by the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (August 5-10) under the theme “Parliament adapts for a stable and prosperous ASEAN”, emphasized “the uniqueness of the Moroccan development model and the major projects launched by the Kingdom of Morocco under the far-sighted leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which have enabled the Kingdom to enjoy prosperity and stability”, said a statement by the House of Representatives (lower house). He also discussed, during this session held under the theme “parliamentary cooperation, common commitments for peace, stability and prosperity”, in the presence of the ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Republics of Indonesia and Singapore, Ouadie Benabdellah , the 60 years of Moroccan parliamentary experience, reviewing the relations of the legislative power with the other powers, as well as the prerogatives and competencies of the Moroccan Parliament under the 2011 Constitution in terms of legislation, oversight of government action, assessment of public policies, and parliamentary diplomacy at various regional and international parliamentary forums, added the same source. For their part, the representatives of the parliaments of the member states taking part in the parliamentary dialogue session with Morocco commended the Kingdom’s leading role in the fields of the economy, diplomacy and South-South cooperation, deeming it as a model to be followed at continental and international level. They also praised the Kingdom’s action as a stable country and a key player in spreading peace and coexistence, the statement said. In addition, the speaker of the House of Representatives held bilateral meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday with the speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia, Puan Maharani, the speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, Rais Yatim, the speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, the speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Brunei, Abdul Rahman Taib, the speaker of the National Assembly of Laos, Saysomphone Phomvihane, as well as the president of the Commission Social Affairs and the Women’s Parliamentary Group in the Vietnamese National Assembly, Nguyen Thuy Anh, the same source noted. The meetings focused on ways of consolidating parliamentary cooperation, while stressing the importance of respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of States, as well as non-interference in their internal affairs, noted the statement, adding that these talks were an opportunity for Talbi El Alami and the presidents of legislative assemblies and heads of delegations to discuss issues of common interest, the situation on the regional and international scenes, as well as ways of strengthening coordination in international parliamentary forums.
