Atlantic Dialogues: HM the King’s Initiative to Make Atlantic Region Play Key Role at Continental & International Levels, ‘Timely’, ‘Welcome’ – Expert –
HM the King’s Initiative to transform the Atlantic region into a space for human interaction and economic integration, and to make sure it plays a key role at continental and international levels is “timely” and “welcome”, Masood Ahmed, President of the Center for Global Development, said Friday in Marrakech. “The initiative is very timely and welcome because the Atlantic is not just Europe and North America; it also includes South America and many countries in Africa”, Ahmed told MAP on the sidelines of the 12th edition of the Policy Center for the New South’s (PCNS) annual international conference “The Atlantic Dialogues”. “Trying to find ways in which we can build better relationships, trade and economic linkages can only benefit all parties involved”, he noted, adding that Morocco, a bridge between continents and civilizations, can be the locomotive to promote this wider Atlantic that serves the interests of the peoples of Africa, Latina America and the Caribbean. “Morocco is very well placed to play that role and it has demonstrated its ability to do that”, the former IMF official pointed out, adding that Morocco “has been the connector with countries in the south and the north. Besides this vertical access, Morocco is now developing the horizontal access”, The 12th edition of the Policy Center for the New South’s (PCNS) annual international conference, ‘The Atlantic Dialogues’, kicked off on Thursday, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. With its focus on the theme “A More Assertive Atlantic: Its Meaning for the World”, the event convened over 400 guests from 80 different nationalities across the Atlantic Basin to discuss various economic and geopolitical topics, reflecting the evolving landscape of a more interconnected and integrated Atlantic. Through candid, informal, and well-informed discussions, it aims to foster dialogues that could translate into tangible actions.
