Morocco’s Presidency of UNHRC to Strengthen This UN Body’s Balance – French Lawyer –

Morocco’s election to the presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council will strengthen the balance of this UN body, French lawyer and essayist Jérôme Besnard said. “In a very tense global climate, a Moroccan presidency is a guarantee of balance and common sense,” Besnard, also a professor of public law at Paris-Cité University, told MAP. Besnard considered that Morocco’s election to the presidency of the UNHRC is a “recognition of the main guidelines enshrined in the new Constitution of the Kingdom adopted in 2011 by the will of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in favor of the rule of law and respect for human rights”. Morocco on Wednesday secured the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2024 in a vote held in Geneva, receiving support from 30 out of the 47 council members.
