Reinforcing Territorial Collectivities’ Tax Resources, Key Challenge in Advanced Regionalization Process – Minister –
Reinforcing territorial collectivities’ tax resources is one of the main challenges in the advanced regionalization process, Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit said on Monday. Speaking at the House of Representatives’ question time on “improving efficiency in the management of local finances”, Laftit underlined that in order to develop the management of these finances, the ministry has taken a set of measures, including improving the local tax collection process by increasing the minimum threshold for issuing and paying taxes from 100 to 200 dirhams, as well as implementing the provisions of the law relating to the taxation of territorial collectivities. The minister also cited as measures the establishment of the regulatory framework for the electronic declaration and payment procedure, noting that the ministry has developed an electronic platform allowing citizens to submit their declarations and to pay their due taxes, and has endeavored to generalize an integrated information system dedicated to the management of territorial tax revenue. Laftit also said that his department is elaborating a project relating to supporting local authorities in building the capacities of the staff of tax services, through the organization of training workshops aimed at addressing current difficulties and problems, in addition to holding working meetings with all experts in local taxation in order to continue the reform of territorial collectivities’ taxation.
