Morocco’s Lower House Participates in Arab Parliamentarians’ Regional Meeting on ‘Women’s Economic Empowerment’

Morocco’s House of Representatives (Lower House) on Wednesday took part in a regional meeting of Arab parliamentarians on the economic empowerment of women in the Arab region.    During this e-meeting, initiated by the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, in partnership with UN-Women and the International Labor Union, parliamentarians highlighted the existing complementarity between the Development Goals and the measures aimed at empowering women economically, the House of Representatives said in a press release.    On this occasion, Vice-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nadia Thami, who represented Morocco’s Lower House at this meeting, recalled the Moroccan experience in gender equality and the empowerment of Moroccan women.    She also highlighted the significant achievements made by Morocco in the field of women empowerment and gender equality through the institutionalization of the principles of fairness and equal opportunity as constitutional principles.    In this regard, she highlighted the launch of numerous plans and programs aimed at strengthening the legal, economic and institutional empowerment of women, in addition to the various measures taken by the Kingdom to promote the gender approach in the various sectoral strategies.
