Sanchez’s Visit to Morocco Conveys Messages to Policy-Makers in Spain & Europe – Expert –

The visit of the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, to Morocco conveys messages to policy-makers in Spain and Europe, that the Kingdom is a credible partner and a “regional and international stakeholder in several vital issues,” international relations expert Lahcen Aqartit said.    Spanish political elites “are more aware than ever that Spain’s interest lies in deepening its partnership with Morocco, particularly in light of the new geostrategic changes on the regional and international stage”, Aqartit told MAP, noting that this visit confirms Spain’s willingness to build a strategic relationship with Morocco based on trust and mutual interests.    Sanchez’s visit, the first since his investiture, reflects Madrid’s determination to implement the roadmap adopted in April 2022 on the occasion of the visit of the President of the Spanish Government to the Kingdom, at the invitation of HM King Mohammed VI, and to promote this strategic dimension of relations between the two countries, he added.    The Kingdom’s project aimed at transforming the Atlantic coast into a center of continental and international influence, offers an opportunity for Spanish and European partners and investors to contribute to this strategic megaproject and to develop maritime infrastructure in a vital region for Europe, he noted.    Due to their privileged geographical location, Morocco and Spain hold a central position in the geopolitics of the Mediterranean and Atlantic region, finding themselves at the heart of its economic and security challenges, the expert said.
