Liberian Top Diplomat Hails Partnership with Morocco

Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, on Thursday in Rabat, highly praised the partnership established “over the years” between her country and Morocco. “Liberia is extremely grateful of the relationship and partnership we have shared over the years,” Nyanti told a joint press briefing following talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita. In this respect, the Liberian head of diplomacy highlighted the various initiatives taken by Morocco to support the process of sustainable development and the promotion of peace and security in her country, stressing that the Kingdom had not abandoned Liberia during this period. “Morocco has journeyed with Liberia since the 1960s, through some good times and some very difficult times,” she stressed, citing in particular the support provided by the Kingdom in terms of technical assistance in various fields and the granting of scholarships to young Liberians. Nyanti said that her visit to the Kingdom was aimed at further consolidating relations between the two countries, to give new impetus to bilateral cooperation, and to work together to achieve the African Union (AU) Agenda. She also expressed her country’s support for Morocco’s action within the AU Peace and Security Council, noting that both countries are driven by a desire to build a more peaceful, secure and prosperous Africa. The Liberian minister also reiterated her country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Moroccan Sahara, as well as its support for the autonomy plan. It also welcomed the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for achieving a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
