Slovenia Views Morocco as ‘Friend and Partner’ – Speaker of National Assembly of Slovenia –
Slovenia views Morocco as “a friend and partner country, united by shared values and common aspirations for peace, prosperity, and mutual understanding,” Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia, Ms. Urška Klakočar Zupančič, said on Monday. “I am delighted that Slovenia regards Morocco as a friend and partner, united by shared values and common aspirations for peace, prosperity, and mutual understanding,” Ms. Zupančič said during talks with Rachid Talbi El Alami, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who is currently on a visit to Slovenia. The talks were an opportunity to underline the “excellent relations” between Morocco and Slovenia, as well as the intensification of cooperation between the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco and the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, she said. In this context, she recalled the MoU signed between the two institutions during her visit to Morocco in November 2022, noting that the document reaffirmed “our commitment to strengthening relations and fostering dialogue between our two legislative institutions.” Talks with Mr. El Alami also highlighted the importance of the joint declaration signed in Rabat last June by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Slovenian counterpart, Tanja Fajon, she added. This declaration lays the foundations for future cooperation between the two countries in several areas, including culture, education, science, business, energy, environmental protection, and green technologies, Ms. Zupančič added. They also provided an opportunity to stress the importance of ongoing dialogue between Morocco and Slovenia on security and immigration issues, she stated, reaffirming the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in the fight against irregular migration. “I am convinced that Slovenia and Morocco will continue to deepen dialogue on issues of common interest at the regional and international levels,” she said, stressing that interparliamentary diplomacy plays a key role in this context. The talks took place in the presence of Morocco’s ambassador to Slovenia, Azzeddine Farhane.
