Moroccan Ambassador in Moscow, Russian Deputy FM Discuss Settlement of Sahara Issue

Moscow – The settlement of the Moroccan Sahara issue was at the heart of talks held Wednesday in Moscow between the Russia Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Vershinin, and Morocco’s ambassador to Russia, Lotfi Bouchaara. According to a release issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, “an in-depth exchange of views took place on issues on the agenda of the UN Security Council, with emphasis on resolving the Sahara issue”. It was stressed that a “just and lasting solution is only possible through political means on the basis of the relevant Security Council resolutions,” the source added. “The importance of the appointment as soon as possible of a new personal envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and of progress in the resumption of negotiations between the parties has been noted”, the source said, noting “the stabilizing role of the Minurso in the Sahara.”
