Distinguished Relations of Friendship and Cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania Highlighted in Rabat

The distinguished relations of friendship and cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania were highlighted during a meeting, Monday in Rabat, between the Head of Government, Saad Dine El Otmani and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians abroad, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed. The two parties highlighted the distinguished level of these relations which draw their strength from the fraternal relations between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Mauritanian President Mohammed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, as well as the historical ties of friendship between the Moroccan and Mauritanian peoples, said a statement by the Department of the Head of Government. During this meeting, El Otmani received from the Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, a message addressed to His Majesty the King by President Mohammed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, the same source said. The Head of Government expressed, on this occasion, the permanent willingness of Morocco to work to strengthen the fraternal relations between the two countries as well as bilateral cooperation in the economic, social and cultural fields. For his part, the Mauritanian official expressed his country’s appreciation and gratitude for the friendly initiatives undertaken by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, towards the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, in addition to the constant and multi-faceted support provided by Morocco, particularly in the fight against the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, the statement said. During this meeting, which took place in the presence of the Mauritanian ambassador in Rabat, the Head of Government and the Mauritanian minister reviewed the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation, in light of the preparations underway for the holding of the High Joint Commission that will provide an opportunity to strengthen and expand the capital of the two countries in terms of agreements in various fields. In this context, the two sides stressed the need to take advantage of the enormous potential of the economies of both countries to build fruitful partnerships in areas such as energy, renewable energy, fisheries and infrastructure development.
