Senegal: Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema Holds Contest of Holy Quran Memorization and Recitation
The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, Senegal Section, held on Saturday in Dakar, the 3rd edition of Senegal’s national contest of memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran with the participation of 15 candidates. The jury formed by members of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, Senegal section, selected 14 finalists, in three categories: entire memorization with recitation – Riwayat Warsh (5 finalists), entire memorization with recitation with a Riwayat chosen by the candidate (4) and Quran psalmody with the memorization of at least five Ahzab (5). Given the unstinted care HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful and President of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, bestows to the Holy Quran and in accordance with the recommendations of the Foundation’s Higher Council, held at its second session in Fez in 2018, a competition in the memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran is taking place on annual basis at the level of all the sections of the Foundation. Through this competition, the Foundation seeks to encourage African Muslim children and youth to take an interest in the Holy Quran, memorize it and declaim it. It also aims to encourage the mastery of the memorization of the Holy Quran with the application of the rules of psalmody. The three winners of the contest received prizes from the hands of Morocco’s Ambassador in Dakar, Hassan Naciri, in the presence of members of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, Senegal Section, and a large audience. In a speech, the Moroccan diplomat praised the noble initiative of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, created by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, to organize this contest which aims at preserving the Holy Quran as well as the close ties that bind the peoples of both countries. The diplomat also expressed his thanks to local and central authorities, led by President Macky Sall, for supporting this initiative of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema.
