Moroccan Sahara: Algeria Should Align Itself with Spanish Stance – Lebanese Writer and Journalist –
Lebanese writer and journalist, Khairallah Khairallah, said that Algeria should take the good side of the new Spanish position and align itself with Madrid’s stance on the Moroccan Sahara. The Lebanese journalist and writer stressed, in an article published Wednesday in the London newspaper “Al-Arab” under the title “The world has changed, will the Algerian regime change?” that “it would have been more appropriate for the Algerian president to admit that his country itself should abandon the illusions it has long suffered, as well as those suffered by the Sahrawis detained by the Algerian authorities in misery camps in Tindouf. He noted that “he was supposed to defend the meaning of a decent life for these people, similar to that of the Sahrawis who live in dignity, like any Moroccan citizen in the Sahara provinces of the Kingdom of Morocco”. Khairallah Khairallah recalled that the citizens of the Sahara provinces of Morocco “live and enjoy all the respect enjoyed by the Moroccan citizen in his country, far from the specter of exploitation, contempt, misery and recruitment of children to carry and use weapons, as it happens in the camps of Tindouf”. He wrote that the latest position of the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, on the Sahara issue has changed everything, adding that Algeria should review its position instead of stubbornly refusing to recognize that it is the main party to the Sahara conflict and that there is not something called the “polisario” front. He also noted that Algeria has been waging a war of attrition against the Kingdom since 1975, that is, since Morocco recovered its southern provinces. The Lebanese journalist stressed that when Algeria stopped the passage of gas to Spain via the pipeline that crosses the Moroccan territory, it made false calculations in wanting to punish Morocco, which, he noted, knows how to manage its affairs.
