Morocco, Nigeria Lay Groundwork for Cooperation in Electricity Regulation
The National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) established, on Wednesday in Rabat, the basis of a cooperation agreement as part of their regulatory missions in the sector of electricity. A Nigerian delegation, led by Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam, Chairman of the Energy Committee in Nigeria’s parliament, met with the Board of ANRE, chaired by Abdellatif Bardach, on the terms of this cooperation agreement to promote the exchange and transfer of experiences between the two regulators. Morocco and Nigeria share a common vision for the consolidation of strategic cooperation, under the aegis of HM King Mohammed VI and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, ANRE chairman told MAP. As part of this dynamic, ANRE and NERC have a strong desire to strengthen cooperation and work together, he added. “The success of this approach will be achieved through the mutual exchange of our respective experiences and best practices in electricity regulation.” For his part, NERC Vice President noted that the purpose of these exchanges is to learn from each other through a memorandum of understanding that will establish the framework for cooperation between the two institutions to improve the regulatory processes. “We have much to share and exchange for the development of the electricity sector in Africa,” he added, noting that by working together, it will be easier to establish the regulatory texts of electricity in the continent.
