C24: GCC Reaffirms Unwavering Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty over Sahara

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries reiterated their unwavering support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, during the C24 annual meeting. In the statement, read out by the representative of the Sultanate of Oman on behalf of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, the GCC countries reiterate “the importance of the special strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco and of implementing the joint action plan, as well as the positions of the GCC and its steadfast decisions in support of the Moroccanness of the Sahara and the preservation of Morocco’s security, stability, and territorial integrity.” In that regard, the GCC welcomed the latest UN Security Council resolutions on the Moroccan Sahara. The GCC states expressed their support for all the efforts made by Morocco and the international community to reach a political solution to this regional dispute, recalling the importance for all parties to display wisdom, realism, and a spirit of compromise. The GCC also stressed that resolving this dispute would contribute to peace and stability in the region.
