WB-IMF Annual Meetings: Akhannouch Meets 1st Vice-President of Spanish Government

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, held talks, on Saturday in Marrakech, with the First Vice-President of the Spanish Government and Minister of Finance and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño Santamaría, on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). During the meeting, the two parties discussed various aspects of the partnership between the two countries, as well as issues of common interest, notably the promotion of Spanish investment in Morocco. On this occasion, the Head of Government emphasized that the Kingdoms of Morocco and Spain are pursuing a dynamic of renewed cooperation, thanks to the firm determination of the Sovereigns of the two countries, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Majesty King Felipe VI, to consolidate the bilateral strategic partnership. During the talks, the First Vice-President of the Spanish Government, who welcomed the good relations between Madrid and Rabat, praised Morocco’s good management of the effects of the Al Haouz earthquake, under the far-sighted leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The two officials also welcomed the joint organization, alongside Portugal, of the 2030 World Cup, which marks a new generation of partnerships between the two Kingdoms and reflects the federation of efforts and capacities on the African and European continents. In a statement to the press at the end of the talks, Calviño Santamaría said that cooperation between Spain and Morocco “has considerably improved”, particularly in the wake of the joint organization, alongside Portugal, of the 2030 World Cup, considering it a “major” event of “great importance” to the citizens of both countries. She said that this meeting, which follows on from the High-Level Meeting held on February 1 and 2 in Rabat, was part of efforts to implement the agreements reached by the two parties on that occasion. The talks took place in the presence of Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, and Spanish ambassador to Morocco, Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner.
