WB-IMF Annual Meetings: “Notable” Performance for Morocco, Says Economy Minister
Morocco, through the organization of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has shown a “notable” performance, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, said Saturday in Marrakech. “We consider, in this first stage of the assessment, that the effective participation of more than 12,000 people from 190 countries, 1,500 journalists and several representatives of civil society, is a very notable and important performance for our country,” Fettah told the press, on the eve of the closing of this planetary event. She added: “These annual meetings were an opportunity to demonstrate on the ground and in an effective way that, under the High Guidance of HM King Mohammed VI, we were able to deal with a human tragedy such as the Al Haouz earthquake, and thanks to swift and effective action to support the populations, we were able to keep our promise to organize these meetings to the highest international standards.” The Minister, who quoted the testimonies of the guests at these assemblies, highlighted the quality of the organization, which met and even exceeded expectations. At the same time, she noted that the discussions, debates and exchanges were of a very high standard, and Morocco, with over 50 representatives on the panels, took an active part in discussions of concern to the world, the Kingdom and also the African continent. Fettah also indicated that these meetings were an opportunity to demonstrate that Morocco, for at least two decades, has made convincing progress, thanks to the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI. The WB-IMF Annual Meetings, which return to African soil 50 years later, provide an opportunity for the world’s economic and financial elite to debate major issues linked in particular to financing policies, economic growth and climate change.
