Morocco’s Election to UNHRC Presidency Reflects International Community’s Trust – Arab Committee –

Morocco’s election to the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2024 reflects the international community’s trust in the kingdom’s capacity to lead efforts aimed at promoting and protecting human rights, the Arab Human Rights Committee said. This election also reflects Morocco’s prime position in human rights, as well as its commitment to consolidating human rights principles nationally, regionally and internationally, the Committee underlined in a statement. The Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council confirms the Kingdom’s contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the same source noted, adding that this choice will consolidate the network and complementarity between international and regional mechanisms. In this respect, the Committee, which congratulated Morocco on this election, welcomed the Kingdom’s efforts in human rights, citing in particular the promulgation of laws and the ratification of conventions that further protect human rights. Morocco on Wednesday secured the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2024 in a vote held in Geneva, receiving support from 30 out of the 47 council members.
