Morocco-Spain: Hosting of Brahim Ghali By Madrid Will Definitely Impact Security Cooperation – News Site

The hosting by Spain of the leader of the polisario, the so-called Brahim Ghali under a fake identity, will certainly impact the cooperation in security and intelligence between Rabat and Madrid, according to news website “Rue20.com”. Cooperation in security and intelligence between the two countries is threatened with blockage, the electronic site said in a story published Monday. This act will harm Spain which attaches crucial importance to security interests, it added.

In its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad had addressed a direct question to Madrid on “the seriousness of the cooperation in all areas, at a moment when it hides information touching on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco,” according to the same source. Quoting a former diplomat, the media outlet did not rule out that the leader of the separatists was an agent of Spanish intelligence and at the same time an employee of Algerian intelligence whose role consisted in executing orders. This possibility is very likely, which could be a turning point in Moroccan-Spanish relations. In this context, the former diplomat wondered how does a country, which cooperates closely in security and intelligence with Morocco, host on its territory a person with a fake identity and that is sued by the Spanish justice, without informing the southern neighbor?  The disclosure by Morocco of the identity of the leader of the “polisario” front from Spanish soil prompted Madrid to acknowledge the presence of the separatist leader with a fake identity and an Algerian diplomatic passport, added the electronic media.

Morocco deplored on Sunday the attitude of Spain which hosts the so-called Brahim Ghali, leader of the polisario separatist militias, sued for serious war crimes and serious violations of human rights. Morocco expressed its disappointment regarding this act contrary to the spirit of partnership and good neighborliness, which concerns a fundamental issue for the Moroccan people and its living forces, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad said in a press release. The Spanish ambassador in Rabat was summoned to the ministry so that this position could be conveyed to him and demand from him the necessary explanations on his government’s attitude.
