Developments of Morocco-Spain Political Crisis at Center of Meeting of Head of Govt. with SGs of Political Parties

The Head of Government held a meeting, on Thursday in Rabat, with the secretaries general of the political parties represented in Parliament, to discuss the developments in the political crisis between Morocco and Spain. During this meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita gave a presentation on the latest developments in this crisis since the first meeting held on March 8, 2021. This meeting, in which the Minister of State in charge of human rights and relations with the parliament Mustapha Ramid also took part, was an opportunity to reaffirm the mobilization of the political parties behind HM King Mohammed VI, in order to defend the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and its supreme interests, said Saaid Amzazi, spokesperson of the government in a statement read at a press briefing at the end of the meeting. The participants also expressed their continued and constant support for the positions and measures taken in this regard, considering that the basis of the political crisis with Spain is related to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, which concerns all Moroccans from across the political and social spectrum. They also condemned the attempts to deflect the debate on the real reasons for the crisis, namely the hosting by Spain of the man named Brahim Ghali with forged documents and a false identity, while he is sued by Spanish courts and citizens, in particular for crimes against humanity and terrorism, said Amzazi. The participants deemed that the positions of Spain, undermining the national cause on which there is a consensus by all Moroccans, have shaken mutual confidence and respect. “While the issue of our territorial integrity is experiencing a positive dynamic thanks to international political support, Spain is driven by the desire to create problems, to thwart Morocco’s efforts to foster its territorial integrity and to attempt to exert pressure on the Kingdom in an inappropriate attitude on the part of a friendly country linked to Morocco by important strategic and economic partnerships”, deplored the participants. They also renewed the attachment to the national consensus behind HM King Mohammed VI to defend the achievement made by Morocco and thwart all plots hatched against the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, concluded Amzazi.
