The Arab Lawyers Union has reiterated its full support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its rejection of any infringement of Moroccan sovereignty. In a statement issued at the end of its first session of 2021, held on June 25 and 26 in Damascus, the Permanent Bureau of the Union welcomed the Moroccan “serious and democratic” autonomy proposal of the southern provinces of the Kingdom. The Bureau also expressed its astonishment at the inhumane, violent and contrary to all international conventions treatment of migration issues and Moroccan migrants, especially with regard to minors, calling on the Spanish government to fully respect the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. In this regard, it commended the decision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI who called on European governments to facilitate procedures to ensure the return of all Moroccan minors in coordination with Moroccan consulates in Europe and in full compliance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Bureau also expressed its rejection of the European Parliament resolution on Morocco, noting that it “reflects an unjustified European alignment with the position of Spain, in a strange denial of the partnership relations that bind it with the Kingdom and in a dangerous transgression of its competencies and the competencies of the UN bodies relating to international agreements dealing with children’s issues. The permanent Bureau of the Arab Lawyers Union informed that it has instructed the General Secretariat to send a letter to the European Parliament on this matter. On the Palestinian issue, the Bureau welcomed the continued efforts of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to support the Palestinian people and the resistance of the Al-Quds inhabitants, especially after the recent aggressions against the Gaza Strip and the siege imposed on it by the Israeli occupation authorities.
