Counter-Terrorism: Morocco is Rolling Out ‘Effective, Multidimensional and Holistic’ Strategy Under Royal Vision – FM

Morocco has put in place an “effective, multidimensional and holistic” strategy in the fight against terrorism, in line with the vision of HM King Mohammed VI, said Wednesday in Marrakech the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita. Since the terrorist attacks of Casablanca on May 16, 2003, “the Kingdom – in line with the Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI – has put in place an efficient, multidimensional and holistic strategy to combat terrorism and violent extremism,” Bourita pointed out at the opening of the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS. “This effort enabled Morocco to dismantle more than 210 terrorist cells since 2002, amongst other achievements,” the minister went on. Bourita also highlighted the best practices achieved by Morocco’s Security Services, as well as the Kingdom’s outstanding approach in the field of de-radicalization, stressing the Kingdom’s long-standing engagement with African brotherly countries facing the evolving threat of terrorism. Morocco’s approach, “reflects a deep belief in Africa’s own capabilities to turn the tide, as underlined by His Majesty King Mohammed VI before the 29th Summit of the African Union: [I quote] I have always firmly believed that Africa can turn the challenges it is facing into genuine prospects for development and stability. [End of quote],” Bourita said. This first meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS in Africa is being held at the joint invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad and the U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken. The meeting, which sees the participation of representatives from more than 80 countries and international organizations, focuses on the challenges posed by terrorism in all its forms and the repositioning of Daesh in Africa. The hosting by Morocco of this international event reflects the confidence enjoyed by the singular approach implemented by the Kingdom under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI in the fight against terrorism.
