Lower House Speaker Holds Talks with chairman of UN Committee on Protection of Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, held Friday in Rabat talks with the chairman of the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families, Edgar Corzo Sosa. This meeting was an opportunity to discuss and exchange views on issues related to migration and asylum at regional and international levels, and to tackle the joint responsibility of legislative institutions in the protection and control through coordination, communication and international parliamentary consultation, said a statement by the House Representatives. On this occasion, Talbi El Alami stressed that this meeting was an opportunity to highlight the Moroccan approach and the achievements made so far, emphasizing the role of the legislative institution in protecting the rights of migrants and their families in terms of legislation, monitoring and evaluation of public policies, as well as the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the promotion and protection of the rights of migrant workers. Talbi El Alami also highlighted the Moroccan approach to migration and asylum, focusing on the legal, administrative, social, health and educational achievements of migrants and their families in Morocco, which has moved from a country of transit to a hosting and residence country. The speaker of the House of Representatives emphasized the approach adopted by Morocco towards migrants during the health crisis of Covid-19, stressing that they have benefited from the vaccine without any discrimination. Talbi El Alami also shed light on the laws that protect migrants and grant their families several economic, social, health and educational rights, stressing that the House of Representatives accompanies this dynamic through legislation, monitoring government action. For his part, the chairman of the United Nations Committee for the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families welcomed the achievements of Morocco in various fields, emphasizing in particular the approach adopted by the Kingdom in the field of migration and asylum, which allowed the regularization of several files of migrants and the protection of their social, economic, educational and health rights and those of their families.
