Mauritania’s accession to the rotating presidency of the African Union (AU) is a well-deserved recognition, given its role as a player for stability in the region, said Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita. “This is a well-deserved recognition in view of Mauritania’s role, under the leadership of president Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, as an actor for stability in the region and its positive role on a range of issues on the African continent,” Bourita told the Mauritanian news website “Sahara Media”, on the sidelines of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa. “Pursuant to the High Instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, Morocco supported Mauritania’s bid, in view of the neighborly ties and solid bilateral relations between Morocco and Mauritania,” added Bourita. He noted that the Mauritanian president “knows that he can rely on Morocco’s support, in accordance with the High Royal Instructions, to make this presidency a success”. The Islamic Republic of Mauritania takes over the rotating presidency of the African Union this Saturday.
