The Moroccan parliamentary delegation attending the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 212th session of the Governing Council and related meetings in Angola met on Friday with the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Angola, Carolina Cerqueira, according to a press release by the Parliament. On this occasion, Cerqueira expressed her warm thanks and deep appreciation to the Moroccan Parliament for the technical, material and logistical support, as well as for mobilizing a team of interpreters during the 147th IPU General Assembly being held from October 23 to 27 in Luanda, noting that this support reflects the spirit of solidarity and cooperation between two brotherly African countries, the statement added. Cerqueira also underlined the depth of the historic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Angola, praising Morocco’s support for the liberation movement in Angola during the period of colonization, under the late HM Hassan II, by welcoming and training members of this movement, the same source noted. The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Angola also commended Morocco’s achievements and development in various fields, which make it “an example to be followed on the African continent,” noting that the Tangier Med port is a successful example and an important project on a continental scale. She said that the Moroccan parliamentary delegation’s participation in the 147th IPU General Assembly was a strong endorsement of the aspirations of parliamentary institutions around the world to consolidate peace, justice and development. For his part, the First Vice-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Sabbari, who is leading the Moroccan delegation to the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 212th session of the Governing Council, highlighted the importance of these talks, which reflect the strength of the ties of friendship and the depth of the cooperative relations linking the legislative institutions of Morocco and Angola.
