Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit’s Resolution Voices Support for Al Quds Committee Presidency’s Efforts

Leaders of countries participating in the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit, held on Saturday in Riyadh, voiced their support for the efforts made by the Al Quds Committee, chaired by HM King Mohammed VI.    In the resolution adopted by the Summit, they highlighted the ground efforts made by the Committee to alleviate the suffering of Al-Qods inhabitants due to the escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as to encourage them to resist and preserve the legal and symbolic status of this holy city.    Furthermore, Arab leaders stressed the need for the UN Security Council to adopt a binding and urgent resolution demanding a ceasefire and an immediate end to Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, so as to guarantee the protection of civilians, lift the blockade against the Gaza Strip and allow urgent humanitarian and relief aid to be delivered in a sustainable manner.    They also noted that any delay in establishing a ceasefire is likely to increase the possibility of widening the scope of the conflict regionally.    The Kingdom, which chaired the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers, held on October 11 in Cairo, warned against the ongoing escalation in the region which could expand the scope of clashes, fuel the cycle of violence and counter-violence and thus undermine what remains of the hopes of the region’s peoples to establish a lasting and comprehensive peace.    This situation urges the international community and influential powers, as well as the Security Council permanent members, regarding the effectiveness of their approach to this chronic crisis.    HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, is represented at this Summit by Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch. The Moroccan delegation to this high-level meeting includes notably Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.    The Moroccan delegation also includes Morocco’s Ambassador to Cairo and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Ahmed Tazi, Moroccan Ambassador to Riyadh and the Kingdom’s permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mustapha Mansouri, and the Director of Mashreq, Gulf, Arab and Islamic Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Fouad Akhrif.
