Moroccan-Hungarian Ties Significantly Evolved in Recent Years – FM –

Relations between Morocco and Hungary have significantly evolved in recent years, in accordance with the willingness of HM King Mohammed VI to diversify partnerships with EU countries, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, said here Wednesday.    During a press conference with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Peter Szijjarto, following their talks, Bourita stressed that “we have worked together to establish a robust and distinctive cooperation model”, underlining that the two countries share the same vision on a set of international issues, given that they are “two secular nations that trust their history and their future”.    He added that the cooperation model established between the two countries could “serve as a reference to inspire our relations with other nations”, especially since it is based on a genuine spirit of solidarity.    In this regard, Bourita welcomed Hungary’s positions, which have always been characterized by their “clarity”, particularly on national issues and more particularly on the Moroccan Sahara.    The two countries attach great importance to political dialogue between them, which has significant evolved, he noted, recalling the coordination of the two countries’ positions on a set of issues, either during bilateral talks or on the sidelines of international meetings.    Regarding bilateral economic cooperation, the minister said that Hungarian economic stakeholders have contributed to the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, stressing that Morocco is currently one of Hungary’s main trading partners at Arab and African levels.    Bourita also mentioned other aspects of bilateral cooperation, namely scholarships, tourism, air transport and technology.    Regarding Morocco’s relations with the European Union, Bourita affirmed that “Hungary is a partner country which supports the strengthening of our relations with the Union, based on positions and standards founded on mutual respect, equality and common interests”, adding that Hungary has always defended a balanced vision of relations between Morocco and the European Union.    The minister stressed that his meeting with his Hungarian peer was also an opportunity to discuss several regional and international issues, both in the Middle East and in other regions, adding that “our positions on these issues are often close and call for the promotion of security, peace and stability in the world”.    The visit of the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade to Morocco is “important” and “successful” which gives added value to the development of bilateral relations, he said, recalling the visit made by HM the King to Hungary in 2016, which gave strong impetus to developing strong relations between the two countries.
